Information for applicants

The Ministry of Health – Manatū Hauora helps responsible ministers identify candidates with the right skills and experience to serve on boards for a range of statutory entities.

We help make appointments to these statutory entities:

We do not accept applications or expressions of interest outside advertisement periods.

Before you apply

Before you apply for an appointment make sure you:

  • have considered whether anything could preclude your appointment.
  • have fully declared any conflicts of interest.
  • are available to serve for a full term of up to 3 or 5 years.

Please check the information for each vacancy to learn about the specific requirements for the position you are interested in.

Incorrect or misleading information

By submitting your application, you are declaring that all information supplied in your application is correct. Incorrect, incomplete or misleading information will render the application invalid and may result in an appointment being revoked.

How appointments are made

There are often many candidates for each vacancy. The decision about which candidate will be appointed is made by the responsible Minister or Assistant Minister of Health, the Governor-General or the Director-General of Health, depending on the role.

The appointment process is long, usually taking several months after applications close and may include consideration by Cabinet.

Ministers seek nominations from a range of sources. A nomination may not necessarily result in an appointment.

Diversity of board members

The Ministry of Health works to ensure that statutory boards represent the diversity and demographic make-up of New Zealand, including gender, ethnicity, age and geographic location.

Registering interest with other nominating agencies

The Ministry of Health does not accept applications or expressions of interest for boards or committees except when we advertise them.
