Māori health Hauora Māori

Increasing access to health services, achieving equity and improving outcomes for Māori.

The Group’s role is to provide independent advice to the Minister of Health on matters relating to primary care priorities, supporting the strategic and long-term vision for primary care.

It will have a role in advising on priorities such as how more health services can be moved from hospitals into community settings, considering how primary care can best support the Government’s Health Targets, and providing options to strengthen existing accountability and performance within primary care.

The Group is intended to focus initially on general practice but over time it may be asked to have a broader focus on other healthcare delivered in community settings.

The Primary Care Advisory Group is a ministerial committee under section 87 of the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures Act) 2022.
