The Ministry’s research, evaluation and evidence functions are built into our Strategy and Policy Group. This alignment supports evidence-based strategy and policy development and leadership of system-level strategy for health research.
Our Research and Evaluation team provides functional research and evaluation leadership across the Ministry in order to generate new evidence to support evidence-based policy, regulation and monitoring.
The Office of the Chief Science Advisor provides scientific leadership, advice and recommendations to the Ministry and Ministers and the wider health sector, and leads the evaluation of evidence and insights to inform decision-and policy-making.
Our Health Research System Innovation team provides leadership to strengthen research in the health system and across the broader health research sector, in line with the priorities of New Zealand Health Research Strategy (2017–2027).
