About the Hauora Māori Advisory Committee
An interim Hauora Māori Advisory Committee was established on 1 July 2022 under section 89 of the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act 2022.
The Hauora Māori Advisory Committee provides advice to the Minister of Health on any matter the Minister requests. The Minister also consults the committee about members appointed to the Public Health Advisory Committee.
Membership of the committee
The interim Hauora Māori Advisory Committee consists of 8 members. They were appointed by the Minister of Health after consultation with the Minister for Māori Development.

- Margareth Broodkoorn (Ngāpuhi, Dutch)
- Dr Matire Harwood (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Rangi, Te Mahurehure, Ngāti Hine)
- Amohaere Houkamau (Ngati Porou, with affiliations to Rongowhakaata, Ngāti Kahungunu and Ngāti Mutunga ki Taranaki)
- Dr Jim Mather (Ngāti Awa, Ngāi Tūhoe and English descent)
- Rahui Papa (Ngāti Korokī-Kahukura, Waikato-Tainui)
- Tā Mark Solomon (Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Kurī)
- Lisa Tumahai (Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Waewae, Makaawhio)
Membership of the committee is currently being reviewed by the Minister of Health.
Review of early progress by Te Aka Whai Ora (disestablished June 2024)
In March 2023, the Minister and Associate Minister of Health commissioned the committee to undertake a high-level assessment of the early progress and plans of the Māori Health Authority – Te Aka Whai Ora. This was to ensure it was meeting expectations, commitments and priorities set by Cabinet.
