Prime Minister’s Authorisation
Under section 8(c) of the now repealed COVID-19 Public Health Response Act 2020, the Prime Minister could authorise the use of COVID-19 orders, if satisfied that there was a risk of an outbreak or the spread of COVID-19.
The Prime Minister authorised the use of COVID-19 orders under the Act for specific matters on five occasions:
- on 17 October 2022 (notice expired on 20 January 2023)
- on 16 December 2022 (notice expired on 28 February 2023)
- on 27 February 2023 (notice expired on 28 April 2023)
- on 26 April 2023 (notice expired on 30 June 2023)
- on 27 June 2023, by the Acting Prime Minister (notice expired on 31 August 2023).

Under the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Revocations) Order 2022 (SL 2022/254):
The following orders were revoked from 11:59pm on 12 September 2022:
- COVID-19 Public Health Response (Isolation and Quarantine) Order 2020 (LI 2020/241)
- COVID-19 Public Health Response (Maritime Border) Order (No 2) 2020 (LI 2020/240)
- COVID-19 Public Health Response (Testing for COVID-19) Order 2022 (SL 2022/51)
The COVID-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Order 2021 (LI 2021/94) was revoked at 11:59pm on 26 September 2022.
Under the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Air Border) Order Revocation Order 2022 (SL 2022/275):
The COVID-19 Public Health Response (Air Border) Order 2021 (SL 2021/427) was revoked at 12.01 am on 20 October 2022.
Under the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Revocations) Order 2023 the following orders were revoked at 12:01am on 15 August 2023 (2023/196):
- COVID-19 Public Health Response (Masks) Order 2022 (SL 2022/255)
- COVID-19 Public Health Response (Self-isolation Requirements) Order 2022 (SL 2022/46).
