Reading feeds

In a web browser

An RSS ‘feed’ is a stream of content updates from a website. RSS is short for ‘Really Simple Syndication’ or ‘Rich Site Summary’.

Some web browsers (eg, Internet Explorer) can be used to read RSS/Atom feeds:

  1. When you’re on a site that has RSS, the RSS icon that is near (or in) the Address bar changes from grey to orange.
  2. Click on it to view the feed.
  3. You’ll see an option to Subscribe to the feed. Click on this to add the feed to your Favourites/Bookmarks. You can then open this area from time to time to view updates.

In your email programme

Some email programs, such as Microsoft Outlook, can be used to read feeds.

The Microsoft website has information to help you set this up for Outlook.

In a feed reader

A feed reader or RSS reader is a dedicated website or tool for reading feeds. You can use the link for our feed to add it to your feed reader.
