Improving mental health services for children in Canterbury and Kaikōura

The Government has announced additional mental health support to earthquake affected schools in Canterbury and Kaikōura.

Immediate support will be provided in schools in two Kāhui Ako (clusters of schools) – Tamai in East Christchurch and Hornby in West Christchurch. A larger scale programme taking a holistic and tailored approach to the mental health needs of children, and building on the approach in Tamai and Hornby will be rolled out in 2018/19. This programme will be developed by Canterbury DHB, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and social sector organisations taking a partnership approach.
