Before potential volunteers deploy with NZMAT, they are required to complete a Team Member course which is by invitation only.
Please note that in the event of NZMAT being deployed in response to an incident, courses may be subsequently suspended or postponed at short notice.

Team Member Course (prerequisite for deployment)
This course is designed to provide participants with exposure to a range of essential techniques and skills which will be required when deployed into the field after a sudden onset disaster or public health emergency. The course involves a simulation exercise. Participants are required to attend all days and lectures of this course.
The course is a mixed mode delivery with pre-course learning, faculty presentations, workshops and simulation exercises.
Participants are selected through a comprehensive selection process and invited to participate on the course. Attendance on the Team Member Course does not guarantee deployment.
Note: Completing the Team Member Course does not guarantee you are eligible for deployment as participation on the course is only one part of the selection process to be accepted as a member of NZMAT.

Refresher Course
This course is designed for NZMAT personnel who have previously completed the Team Member course. The course allows participants who have not previously deployed / deployed recently to revisit essential skills required in an austere environment.
Participants are also given the opportunity to participate in a simulation exercise in the NZMAT Fixed Camp Facility, whilst also familiarising themselves with any updated EMT principles, practices and guidelines.
The course is a mixed mode delivery with pre-course learning, faculty presentations, workshops and simulation.
The course is open to all NZMAT personnel with the preference given to personnel who have not completed their initial team member training or deployed in the previous two years.

Basic Emergency Obstetric Course (BEOC)
The BEOC has been developed for NZMAT personnel to provide the basic knowledge and skills to be able to function more effectively as a team member when assisting with antenatal care, labour and birth care, postnatal care, and neonatal care while on deployment.
This course is a mixed mode delivery with pre-course learning, faculty presentations and workshops.
The course is open to all NZMAT personnel involved in clinical care on deployments.

Emergency Medical Team Coordination Centre Course (EMTCC)
This course is designed to provide participants with exposure to a range of essential techniques and skills to successfully manage international emergency medical teams arriving in New Zealand to assist with a sudden onset disaster or public health emergency.
