You will need to apply to the Medicinal Cannabis Agency for a product assessment prior to the supply of any cannabis-based ingredient or medicinal cannabis product within New Zealand.

The purpose of the assessment is to verify that products within New Zealand meet the minimum quality standard.

Once verified, the product will be added to your licence, enabling you to supply the product.

Export-only medicinal cannabis products and cannabis-based ingredients may be listed on a medicinal cannabis licence with a supply activity without verification that they meet the minimum quality standard if it is manufactured in compliance with GMP by a GMP-certified manufacturer, and the importing country is willing to accept it.

See the Guideline on the Regulation of Medicinal Cannabis in New Zealand: Guidance for a New Medicinal Cannabis Product Application for detailed information on product assessments.

Application fees for product assessments

All application fees listed on the Application Fees web page are in New Zealand dollars and inclusive of GST. Read more.
