The Compliance Guide: Management of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) in Mining and Mineral Extraction (ORS G13) is a practical guide to support the management of radiation risks associated with NORM in mining and mineral extraction activities.

The Guide provides practical advice on how to identify, assess and manage exposures to NORM that may arise during exploration, mining, mineral processing and associated activities. It addresses common regulatory and operational issues, including the development of NORM management plans and the application of control measures.

Following the Guide is not a radiation safety requirement. However, in most cases, following the Guide will be equivalent to demonstrating compliance with radiation safety requirements under the Radiation Safety Act 2016 and Radiation Safety Regulations 2016. The Guide makes reference to relevant legislative requirements where appropriate.

The Guide is not intended to replace advice from a qualified expert.
