Summary

The National Radiation Oncology Plan 2017 to 2021 builds on the first national plan by taking a broader perspective of the radiation oncology sector, and looks beyond linear accelerator and workforce planning to include clinical planning. It is guided by the New Zealand Cancer Plan’s priorities and expectations, Cancer Health Information Strategy and the New Zealand Health Strategy.

Actions in the plan aim to address variation in access to radiation oncology services and the treatment itself throughout DHBs. This will ensure that access to radiation oncology services is fair for all New Zealanders. Other actions will ensure that radiation oncology services remain safe and effective, and sustainable.

The Ministry, radiation oncology providers, the Radiation Oncology Work Group (a Ministry advisory body), regional cancer networks and other agencies are responsible for these actions.
