Vaping information for schools and early childhood centres

Prohibition on vaping

From 11 November 2020, the existing prohibition on smoking at schools, early childhood education facilities and care centres is extended to include vaping.

This means that the managers and/or boards of those places must take all reasonably practicable steps to ensure that no-one vapes in any part of the premises, whether inside or outside, at any time of day.

Requirement to display notices

From 11 May 2021, all schools, early childhood education facilities and care centres must display ‘no vaping’ notices, in addition to the existing requirement to display ‘no smoking’ notices.

‘No smoking’ and ‘no vaping’ notices can be combined, or can be separate.

These notices must be prominently displayed at or immediately inside:

  • every entrance to the premises
  • every entrance to every building or enclosed area on the premises, excluding buildings and areas not usually in use.

Signage and stickers will be available for order through the Smokefree website in due course.
