This regulatory impact statement (RIS) analyses options to adopt regulations that support the Radiation Safety Act 2016 (the Act).

Options for regulations are outlined in the Social Policy Committee paper Proposed Radiation Safety Regulations: Policy Approval, which accompanied the RIS.

The Act and the regulations will apply to people who deal with ionising radiation sources came fully into force on 7 March 2017. This new legislation will apply alongside other relevant legislation, such as the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and the Resource Management Act 1991.
