HL7 New Zealand provides expert advice to the Ministry and the Health Information Standards Organisation (HISO) on standards for health care interoperability.
HL7 New Zealand is a volunteer organisation and the national affiliate of the not-for-profit standards development organisation HL7 International. HL7 International’s purpose is the creation and dissemination of standards for technical and semantic interoperability supporting clinical practice and smart health systems.
The Ministry provides some funding to HL7 New Zealand to promote an active health information standards community supporting HISO, and to ensure New Zealand contributes to the success of global health information standards.
HL7 New Zealand representatives attend HL7 International working group meetings to represent our interests and to play a part in standards development and also governance of the organisation.
HL7 New Zealand conducts seminars, workshops and education sessions in New Zealand. The Ministry encourages health provider organisations and their industry partners to attend these events and to become HL7 New Zealand members.
