Summer intern programme

Early career opportunities for rangitahi through our summer intern programme, through November to February each year. Successful candidates are given the chance to develop their knowledge and skills in a public sector setting.

Every year between November and February we welcome interns for our Summer Intern Programme.

Our Interns carry out meaningful and engaging work across our various business groups. These are fixed term positions that pay the living wage, include an interesting development programme, a supportive environment and regular catch ups with other members of the intern programme.

Applications open in August each year 

Applications open for these positions each August. We advertise the roles on our careers site and also partner with other intern programmes in specific areas to ensure we welcome a group that reflects the communities we serve. 

Other intern and graduate programmes 

The Internship Programme – Tupu Toa is an employment pathway with opportunities for Māori and Pacific tertiary students in corporate, government and community organisations. 

Analytics & Research in Government internship programme – This is an internship within government agencies with some of Aotearoa’s leading data analysts. 

The Tupu Tai programme – This programme is offered to Pasifika tertiary students and recent graduates interested in a public sector career. 

Mainstream Employment Programme – Te Hiranga Tangata helps disabled students gain work with public sector employers, providing opportunities to gain valuable experience in their chosen field. 

Summer of Tech – Summer of Tech Internships are entry-level IT, Design and Marketing roles. Regardless of what you're studying you just need to be excited about kick-starting your tech career. 

University Work Experience - We partner with Victoria of Wellington | Te Herenga waka and University of Otago | Te Whare Wananga o Otāgo to give tertiary students the opportunity to gain experience while completing their studies. 

Ethnic Communities Graduate Programme – This programme provides a meaningful first employment opportunity for skilled graduates from ethnic communities.
