For their patients to benefit from transitional access, private providers need to be approved for transitional access by the Ministry of Health. Eligible providers can be either certified private hospitals or private clinics that offer cancer care.
How to become an eligible provider
Private providers will need to submit an application form to the Ministry of Health for transitional access. The Ministry will seek the following information from private providers:
- details of registered medical oncologists or pharmacists
- whether there is an onsite pharmacy or onsite storage facility for medicines
- whether a medicine management plan is in place.
Making an application
Email the completed application form to [email protected]. Please ensure the form is complete and legible.
What happens next
The Ministry will aim to consider your application within 10 working days of receiving a completed application form. If the application is acceptable, the Ministry of Health will notify the provider, and publish the name of the entity as an eligible private provider for transitional access on the Ministry’s website.
The Ministry will also notify Pharmac when the list of providers is updated. Eligible providers will then work with Pharmac to set up a process for payment claims for cancer medicines under transitional access. Pharmac will set the requirements and processes for these claims.
