Code of Practice for Irradiating Apparatus.

Summary

Scope

This code applies to irradiating apparatus for non-medical purposes such as analysis or structures, identification and quantification of elements in materials, inspection of bags, mail, containers, and inspection of food items for foreign objects. Because it has general application it also covers practices such as cargo container inspection using linear accelerators.

Background

This code replaces and extends two existing codes relating to X-ray security, inspection (CSP16) and analysis (CSP17). Specific requirements for each type of equipment and training are set out as appendices.

Consultation process

In October 2019, the Ministry released a document for public consultation on the proposed wording of this code. The consultation period closed on 22 November 2019.
