eLearning modules

HealthCERT has developed two eLearning modules to support health and disability service providers to implement the criteria linking to cultural safety within Section 1.1 Pae ora and throughout Ngā Paerewa. Both modules have been developed in partnership with the sector and Te Apārangi: Māori Partnership Alliance (Te Apārangi) to ensure they are fit-for-purpose. Both modules are free and available on LearnOnline.

First Ngā Paerewa Te Tiriti eLearning module: The first module is a high-level introduction to te Tiriti o Waitangi requirements in Ngā Paerewa and how to meet the intent of those criteria. It’s also for anyone interested in gaining an entry-level understanding of te Tiriti o Waitangi and how its principles are applied in Aotearoa New Zealand’s health and disability sector.
Second Ngā Paerewa Te Tiriti eLearning module: The second module supports health and disability service providers to provide culturally responsive and safe care and support services for all, particularly for whānau Māori. The second module is primarily designed for senior and executive management and leaders from health and disability service providers. Frontline health and care support workers who have regular interactions with people and whānau using services will also benefit from taking this course.

Centralised Resource for Ngā Paerewa

HealthCERT has created a comprehensive PDF document that consolidates all the online resources mentioned in the Sector Guidance, eLearning modules, DAA handbook, and other Ngā Paerewa related resources. This was in response to feedback we received from the sector, highlighting the need for a centralised, easy-to-access repository of all necessary materials. Our goal is to save you time and effort by eliminating the need to navigate through various platforms.

Online training sessions (Nov 22 - Jul 24)

Based on the feedback HealthCERT received from the sector, we understand the providers’ needs of ongoing training in the style of online workshops/presentations. HealthCERT is currently developing a series of presentations focusing on interpretation of requirements in Ngā Paerewa and the practical ways to meet requirements, with examples of good practice we have noted from the completed audits under Ngā Paerewa.

Online lunch sessions (Jul - Oct 21)

HealthCERT has previously run a number of online sessions to provide an overview of the different sections within the 2021 standard, with a focus on the changes from the previous standards to Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Services Standard (NZS 8134:2021) (Ngā Paerewa).

Sector specific information seminars (Sep - Dec 21)

Due to disruption from COVID-19 Delta outbreaks during 2021, HealthCERT was unable to run the tailored seminar roadshows as planned. We understand that our providers and key stakeholders were also greatly affected. Therefore, we have published pre-recorded sector specific sessions that provide an overview of the development of NZS8134:2021 including a summary of partially new and new criteria.

In December 2021, HealthCERT hosted a Designated Auditing Agency (DAA) annual national Hui that had a key theme of Ngā Paerewa and Te Ao Māori as part of preparing the DAAs for the new requirements.

Workshops on topics of interest

Ngā Paerewa pre-implementation survey results suggest that targeted workshops is the preferred way of training to support the sector’s preparedness for implementing, HealthCERT will be running quarterly feedback survey to understand how best HealthCERT can support the sector’s implementation of Ngā Paerewa in daily practice, and develop targeted workshops to meet the sector’s needs. All service providers currently certified will receive the survey via email.
