Summary

The National Health Emergency Plan: Mass Casualty Action Plan provides strategic direction and co-ordination to the health sector in the event of an incident resulting in a large number of casualties.

The purpose of the Plan is to provide national direction on the management of a mass casualty incident, when the impact of the incident has the potential to overwhelm parts of the health sector.

This Plan outlines an agreed sequence of events that will be implemented nationally, regionally and locally in the event of a mass casualty incident. The Plan includes the roles and responsibilities of the national, regional and local health agencies in response to the incident.
