This guide provides detailed information on the definitions of all the indicators in the sexual and reproductive health reports from the 2014/15 New Zealand Health Survey. It explains how the indicators in the report and data explorer are developed from the questions in the survey.

The sexual and reproductive health indicators cover the following topics: first heterosexual sex, heterosexual sexual behaviours, sexual orientation, contraception, pregnancy planning, sexually transmitted infections and non-volitional sex. The indicators were chosen to support the formulation and evaluation of policy and programmes.

The data explorer shows sexual and reproductive health indicators by gender, age group, ethnic group and neighbourhood deprivation.
