The redesigned Ministry of Health website has been launched today.

“I am excited about the experience our redesigned website offers to people looking for information on our website,” says Sarah Turner, Deputy Director-General Government and Executive Services at Ministry of Health.

The old Ministry of Health website was built more than ten years ago and was no longer fit for purpose with the platform technology going end of life in January 2025.

The website project team have refreshed the content, structure, layout and design. Many areas of the site have been rewritten and the team have consulted with dozens of subject matter experts.

“The project has provided a fantastic opportunity to reach out to our users and better understand our audience. Through talking to external and internal users in focus groups we have been able to gauge pain points and opportunities for improvement. Our team also consulted with an accessibility agency every step of the way - to make sure that more people can access the information on our website.”

The new website:

  • Clearly articulates our role as steward of the health system
  • Contains refreshed content that reflects the new role of the Ministry of Health
  • has better access to data with a range of data tools, including interactive graphs and data visualisation
  • is more accessible and has improved navigation, making it easier to find information
  • boosts the visibility of te reo Māori, with translations built into the content design across the site.

“The people behind this project have done some amazing mahi to get us to this point, and it’s been an enormous team effort to make this a reality. This new website technology and approach will ensure the site is meeting the needs of our users - now and into the future,” says Sarah Turner.
