This Cabinet paper sought agreement to pre-commit funds against Budget 2024 so that Pharmac could continue to fund medicines at planned level from 1 July 2024, when time-limited funding approved in 2022 and 2023 ended. The proposal contributes to the Government priority to deliver better public services. It addresses the coalition health commitments by:

  • helping to increase Pharmac’s budget every year
  • creating a baseline to work towards giving Kiwis access to 13 more cancer
    treatments
  • providing a strong foundation to work towards updating Pharmac’s decision making model to ensure it appropriately takes patient voice into account.

These documents have been proactively released by the Ministry of Health on behalf of the Associate Minister of Health, Hon David Seymour.
