2019 measles outbreak information release

Publication date: 4 December 2019

Since the beginning of 2019, there has been an increase in the number of cases of measles in New Zealand.

On 30 August 2019, the National Health Coordination Centre (NHCC) was activated to coordinate the national response to the measles outbreak, support the health sector in managing their local response, and to ensure the best possible information and advice is communicated in a timely manner.

Due to the high levels of public interest in the outbreak and the Government’s response to the outbreak, the Ministry is releasing some key documents.

Please be advised that some information on these documents have been withheld pursuant to the following sections of the Official Information Act 1982:

  • 9(2)(a) – protect the privacy of natural persons, including that of deceased natural persons
  • 9(2)(g)(ii) – to maintain the effective conduct of public affairs through the protection of such Ministers, members of organisations, officers, and employees from improper pressure or harassment
  • 9(2)(f)(iv) – to maintain the constitutional conventions for the time being which protect the confidentiality of advice tendered by Ministers of the Crown and officials.
