Information for retailers on smoked tobacco

The Approved Smoked Tobacco Retailer scheme was suspended in December 2023, and has been repealed by the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Amendment Act 2024.

  • From 1 July 2024, a maximum of 599 smoked tobacco retailers approved by the Director-General of Health will be legally able to sell smoked tobacco products in Aotearoa New Zealand. Approved retailers will be part of the Smoked Tobacco Retail Scheme under the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act. Read more
