High-level assessment of Te Aka Whai Ora progress against Cabinet expectations, commitments and priorities for the Hauora Māori Advisory Committee

Summary

At the end of March 2023, the Minister and Associate Minister of Health commissioned the Hauora Māori Advisory Committee (HMAC) to undertake a high-level assessment of the early progress and plans of Te Aka Whai Ora to ensure it is meeting expectations, commitments and priorities set by Cabinet.

The report was developed on behalf of the Hauora Māori Advisory Committee by EY.

Ministers and HMAC agreed to focus on commissioning and co-commissioning, Iwi-Māori Partnership Boards and localities planning, monitoring with particular focus on Te Whatu Ora, delivery against Budget 22 announcements and the development of Pae Tū: Hauora Māori Strategy with Manatū Hauora.

The report provides seven high level recommendations in the executive summary, and a summary of 32 recommendations and advice.
