Hospitals, rest homes, and some providers of residential disability care need to meet the Health and Disability Services Standards 2008.
The Health and Disability Services Standards 2008 came into effect on 1 June 2009. They replaced the Health and Disability Standards 2001.
These revised sector-agreed Standards are the result of three years extensive collaboration with many groups including consumers, providers, government and non-government agencies and the Ministry of Health.
They have been structured in a new way that will make it easier to review and update parts of them in the future, in order to keep pace with new trends and developments.
The revised Health and Disability Services Standards 2008 are made up of four sets of Standards and are available below:
- NZS 8134.0:2008 Health and Disability Services (General) Standard (PDF, 731 KB)
- NZS 8134.1:2008 Health and Disability Services (Core) Standards (PDF, 988 KB)
- NZS 8134.2:2008 Health and Disability Services (Restraint Minimisation and Safe Practice) Standards (PDF, 726 KB)
- NZS 8134.3:2008 Health and Disability Services (Infection Prevention and Control) Standards (PDF, 835 KB)
