Appointments to health statutory bodies

The Minister of Health has statutory responsibility for appointment of members to a range of statutory authorities, including crown entities, district health boards (DHBs), professional regulatory bodies and ministerial health committees.

Appointments to district health boards

There are 20 DHBs in New Zealand and each DHB is governed by a board of up to 11 members. DHB boards set the overall strategic direction for the DHB and monitor its performance. The Minister of Health appoints four or more members to each board, as well as the chair and deputy chair.

Many appointed members have found their time on the board rewarding, both personally and professionally. Further information is available from DHB board appointment process.

If you wish to express an interest in being appointed to a DHB board, please email a copy of your CV to appointments@moh.govt.nz, or send a hard copy to:

A cover note indicating which DHB(s) you are interested in being appointed to and what skills and experience you can offer the board would be appreciated.

In making yourself available to be considered for appointment, please ensure that:

  • there is nothing that would preclude your appointment
  • you have considered any conflicts of interest you may have (see DHB Conflict of Interest guidelines)
  • you are available to serve for a full term of up to three years.

Individuals and organisations may support a candidate for a specific appointment. To do so, email or write to the above address, specifying the name of the nominee and the board for which they are being nominated. It is the nominator’s responsibility to ensure the nominee has submitted an expression of interest as described above.
