Regulatory impact statements

To help ensure the business compliance cost implications of regulatory proposals are explicit and comprehensively considered in developing policy, all policy proposals submitted to Cabinet require a regulatory impact statement (RIS). This section contains the Ministry's latest statements.

Where the policy proposal includes any compliance cost implications for business, these are set out in a business compliance cost statement (BCCS) within the regulatory impact statement.

Ministers and/or Cabinet may wish to review and amend the RIS/BCCS to ensure that they fully reflect the government's position and are of a high standard. Accordingly, some changes to the RIS/BCCS make take place after Cabinet consideration of the Cabinet submission.
