Disability community residential care providers

Requirements for disability community residential care providers (including RIDSAS) at all settings of the COVID-19 Protection Framework.

Community residential services and Regional Intellectual Disability Accommodation Service (RIDSAS) must continue throughout all COVID-19 Protection Framework traffic light settings. This guidance covers both community residential services and RIDSAS.

Hospital level services under the High and Complex Framework will be guided by the broader rules of the hospital care system.

Balancing equity and safety

As providers, the safety and wellbeing of your staff and residents are paramount. Providers manage a very complex situation in:

  • balancing the need for residents to connect with their families
  • limiting the risk of transmission for staff and residents.

The vaccination status of residents and whānau informs planning for safe delivery of disability supports. It will not otherwise affect the decision to provide support.

For the COVID-19 Protection Framework, we want to make sure the same approach applies to disabled people and whānau as it does for everyone else. Some disabled people may have underlying health conditions that make them at a higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19. Even with vaccinated staff, advice is still for the person to take extra precautions to keep safe.
