HISO 10046:2021 Consumer Health Identity Standard

This document is a data set specification for the collection and representation of personal identity and demographic information recorded in the National Health Index (NHI) system, practice management systems, patient administration and in clinical information systems as used by New Zealand health providers. The standard does not cover clinical information.

2021 revision of the standard

Since the previous 2019 update, there are several changes to the standard:

  • further information related to the upcoming NHI number format change
  • a wider range of options for recording gender and ethnicity
  • updated references to the Privacy Act 2020 and Health Information Privacy Code 2020
  • references to all-of-government mandated data standards
  • more specific adoption and implementation requirements
