National Cancer Programme

New Zealanders expect to receive high-quality, timely cancer treatment regardless of who they are and where they live.

The Cancer Services team in the Ministry of Health leads the National Cancer Programme that puts equity first and aims to ensure every New Zealander has the same access to high quality care.

Many cancers can be cured if they are found and treated in time. In New Zealand, about one person in every three who gets cancer is cured. Even if the cancer cannot be cured, more effective treatment means many people with cancer are now living longer. A strong, cohesive cancer programme is the foundation for the delivery of high quality treatment.
