IT architecture and standards are critical in successfully supporting the New Zealand health sector to utilise IT-based solutions.
The Ministry develops maintains and implements enterprise architecture and standards that enable data within the health and disability sector to be recorded and used efficiently, consistently and securely.
The Ministry works with agencies and sector bodies to plan, develop and implement:
- common principles
- reference architectures and roadmaps
- best practice evidence and guidelines
- the standards needed to support technical and semantic systems interoperability.
We work closely with the following groups:
- Health Sector Architects Group (SAG)
This group of architects works in the New Zealand health sector. The SAG is responsible, via technical working groups, for the development of IT-related reference architectures, guidelines and standards. - Health Information Standards Organisation (HISO)
HISO is a group of private and public sector advisors working in (or for vendors who support) the New Zealand health sector. HISO is responsible, via technical working groups, for the development of appropriate standards.
