Revised 2021

National Vision and Hearing Screening Protocols.

Summary

These screening protocols have recently been updated and are for use by Vision Hearing Technicians (VHTs) and other health professionals who are part of the National Vision Hearing Screening Programme.

This document describes the screening process and is not a training manual. VHTs need to have completed the National Certificate in Vision and Hearing Screening and meet the competencies described in this document.

These protocols should be read in conjunction with the Well Child / Tamariki Ora Programme Practitioner’s Handbook 2013 and the Well Child/Tamariki Ora National Schedule.

A training video has been filmed to provide an online resource for VHTs to enable them to demonstrate best practice in the delivery of the vision and hearing screening programme. The video should be used in conjunction with the training that Vision and Hearing Technicians have as part of their ongoing competencies.
