Services

Counselling is available to help you decide what to do about an unplanned pregnancy. Counselling is also available after an abortion procedure.

Free contraception is provided at Epsom Day Unit before your abortion, or at one of the community clinics after your procedure. Please ring 0800 527 200 or email [email protected] to book a community clinic appoinment.

Surgical Abortion Up to 13 weeks of pregnancy for residents of Auckland, Counties-Manukau and Waitematā District Health Boards
Second Trimester Service If you are 13 or more weeks pregnant, you can self-refer or be referred by your general practitioner (GP) to your local District Health Board (DHB) for assessment by the social worker. If you live within the Auckland DHB area, please access this service via Epsom Day Unit. Once assessed, the social worker will refer you to the right department to continue your care.

If you choose to have a surgical procedure and you are between 13 and 18 weeks gestation, you will be referred to an independent specialist contractor service. If you live within the Auckland DHB area, a medical induction of labour is also available.

Patient information / what to expect

For first trimester abortion services you can self-refer directly to Epsom Day Unit via phone or email. The team will help you get the tests you need before the abortion procedure, such as ultrasound and blood tests. Ultrasounds can be provided on site at no charge.

Fees

Epsom Day Unit provides free abortion services and related counselling services to any pregnant person who is eligible for publicly funded health care.

Services

AMAC provides free pre-abortion testing, early medical and surgical abortion procedures and related counselling services to any pregnant person who is eligible for publicly funded health care and lives in the region of Waitematā District Health Board, Auckland District Health Board and Counties Manukau Health Board.

Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) is available on the day of and up to 6 weeks after abortion for Waitemata, Auckland and Counties Manukau DHB people who are eligible for publicly funded health care. Find out more on the AMAC website.
