This report was commissioned by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment to inform cross-agency housing work in the context of crowding as a determinant of health. The report provides a description of household crowding in New Zealand using Census 2013 data.

NZDep2013 Index of Deprivation uses 9 variables from the 2013 census which reflect 8 dimensions of deprivation. It provides a deprivation score for each ‘meshblock’ or geographical unit, to identify the least and most deprived areas in New Zealand.

Unequal Impact II: Māori and Non-Māori Cancer Statistics by Deprivation and Rural-Urban Status 2002-2006 provides specific information about the unequal distribution of cancer outcomes for Māori and Non-Māori.

Tatau Kahukura: Māori Health Chart Book 2010, 2nd Edition provides a snapshot of Māori health in the mid to late 2000s. It updates the first Māori Health Chart Book, which was released in 2006 and was based on data from the early 2000s.

This is the fourth report in the Decades of Disparity series. It updates the earlier reports by providing estimates of ethnic inequalities and income gradients in mortality (all-cause and by-cause) for 2001- 04.
