The Primary Maternity Services Notice 2021 set out the terms, services and fee structures for primary maternity care providers.

Implementing new funding of $85 million (over four years) allocated in Budget 2020 required changes to the 2007 Notice, in order to deliver funding for additional primary maternity services to women with complex needs, and to women living in rural areas.

The updated 2021 Notice came into effect on 29 November 2021.

Consultation on the Notice

The Ministry of Health undertook a public consultation on proposed changes to the existing Notice from 4 September to 13 November 2020.

During the 10-week consultation period, the Ministry of Health received 944 written submissions and participated in verbal feedback sessions with 63 people. Additional feedback was sought from sector groups and consumer advocates.

We would like to thank everyone who took part in the consultation process for taking the time to share their thoughts.

Your insights and feedback are being carefully considered.
