Summary
This is the seventh annual report of the Office of the Director of Mental Health (‘the Office’). It reflects the Ministry’s ongoing emphasis on transparency, accountability and trust in government and its agencies. Mental health care – in particular, compulsory care – is often the subject of public concern. The annual report provides clarity by reporting on the legislative activities of the Office for the 2011 calendar year.
The report comprises three sections:
- Section 1 provides an overview of the legislative and service delivery contexts in which the Office operates.
- Section 2 describes the work carried out by the Office in 2011.
- Section 3 provides statistical information.
When reading the 2011 annual report, it is important to note that, as in previous years, the report does not attempt to interpret data variations between district health boards, as these could be due to a number of variables – including practice, size, location, population and configuration. For further information about the statistics relating to a specific district health board, please refer directly to that district health board.
