2021/22 Māori Provider Development Scheme (MPDS)

Applications for the Māori Provider Development Scheme (MPDS) 2021/22 will open by 5 pm on Wednesday 30 June 2021 and close at 11.59 pm (midnight) on Friday 30 July 2021.

Applications are invited from Māori health and disability service providers and national associations who represent Māori health or disability practitioners. Eligibility criteria and links to application tools are detailed below.

Eligible organisations must submit their application using the online tool by the closing time and date. Late applications will not be accepted.

Who can apply for MPDS funding?

Organisations can apply for MPDS funding for projects specifically relating to building their capability and capacity. 

There are two categories for applications:

Follow these steps to find if your organisation is eligible and which application tool you should use to apply.

Māori health and disability providers

Definition

Your organisation must be:

  • owned and governed by Māori, and
  • currently funded by (or in the final stages of agreeing a contract with) either the Ministry of Health and/or District Health Board and/or Primary Health Organisation for the provision of health services, and
  • delivering health and disability services primarily but not exclusively for Māori.

Eligibility criteria

Your organisation must:

  • be a legal entity
  • be registered with the NZ Charities Commission
  • have fifty percent or more of the organisation’s full-time health worker FTE identify as Māori
  • have a formalised process (within your constitution or other similar document) that ensures
    • fifty percent or more of the Board members are Māori
    • and evidence that this is sustained currently
  • have a formalised process (within your constitution or another similar document) that ensures
    • that the majority of members who appoint the Board are Māori
    • and evidence that this is sustained and/or
    • that the majority of owners/directors of the company are Māori
  • have a constitutional clause or board directive that instructs, where reasonable, it is intended that on wind-up or closure the organisation’s assets are disbursed to a Māori community or a Māori organisation with the same or similar service

National associations who represent Māori health or disability practitioners

Definition

Your organisation must:

  • be mandated by an enrolled membership and governed and operated by iwi/Māori and/or Māori organisations
  • not deliver health services directly to patients.

Eligibility criteria

Your organisation must:

  • be a legal entity
  • be registered with the NZ Charities Commission
  • have evidence of an enrolled membership and that the organisation is mandated by the membership to represent them at a national level
  • have a formalised process (within your constitution or other similar document) that ensures
    • fifty percent or more of the Board members are Māori
    • and evidence that this is sustained currently
  • have a formalised process (within your constitution or another similar document) that ensures
    • the majority of members who appoint the Board are Māori
    • and evidence that this is sustained currently and/or
    • that the majority of owners/directors of the company are Māori
  • have a constitutional clause or Board directive that instructs, where reasonable, that it is intended that on wind-up or closure the organisation’s assets are disbursed to a Māori community or a Māori organisation with the same or similar service.
