This report looked at how people affected by gastroenterology issues can be cared for by a well-prepared and responsive gastroenterology workforce. It is one of a number of forecasts commissioned by Health Workforce New Zealand (HWNZ) to build a picture of the future health and disability workforce.
- mobile clinics and teams for rural areas and smaller centres
- health professionals to work across primary, secondary and tertiary health settings
- expand the use of nurse specialists, a role already in place in some DHBs.
Health Workforce New Zealand funds training for a number of gastroenterologist registrars, and has been involved in the development of a training framework for endoscopy nurses. We are also working closely with the Ministry of Health's bowel screening team.
