Development of the national strategic health and disability workforce priorities 2019- 2024
The Ministry of Health is working in collaboration with all parts of the health sector to develop a small number of key strategic health workforce priorities for the next five years (2019 – 2024).
The strategic priorities will provide a clear and pragmatic shared direction in the medium term for the overall health workforce, while allowing and enabling initiatives across the sector that will grow, support and develop specific workforces. The intention is for these agreed priorities and actions to offer the greatest benefit to the greatest number.
The priorities and actions will be built around the consumer, whanau and community, with the aim of improving outcomes and wellbeing. They will contribute to the wider health priorities of improving equity, improving child wellbeing and developing a primary care focused health system.
Recommendations on the five-year workforce priorities and action plan will be made to the Minister of Health by the end of June 2019. The approach will be underpinned by He Korowai Oranga.
Have your say
We aim to develop an initial outline of the strategic priorities by early May 2019, based on feedback from regional workshops, stakeholder meetings and review of inputs to previous work on developing a health workforce strategy.
These will be refined and an action plan drafted during May and June through a further round of regional workshops, stakeholder meetings and a national stakeholder event.
We’d like to hear what you think.
What do you think the top three national strategic priorities for New Zealand’s health and disability workforce should be for the next five years?
Briefly describe what success would look like for you in 2024 if we made progress on these priorities?
We are setting up a portal so you can contribute online, and will link to it here when it’s available
Or you can e-mail your feedback to firstname.lastname@example.org by April 30 2019
If you are interested in attending one of the regional workshops in May please advise us by e-mailing email@example.com.
