Refreshing the New Zealand Health Research Strategy (2017–2027)

The New Zealand Health Research Strategy (2017–2027) sets a vision that, by 2027, New Zealand will have a world-leading health research and innovation system that, through excellent research, improves the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders.

Both the health system and the global context for health research have significantly changed since the Strategy was released in 2017, as has our understanding of how to apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in relation to health. While much of the Strategy’s content and direction remains relevant, the Ministry will be working with Te Aka Whai Ora (the Māori Health Authority) and other lead agencies to refresh aspects of the Strategy in 2023 to reflect this new environment.

This page will be updated with more information, including about the consultation process, as it becomes available.
