Briefing: Plan for improving delivery of mental health capital projects

Publication date: 24 September 2021

This briefing contains advice to the Minister of Health on a plan for improving delivery of capital projects in the Mental Health Infrastructure Programme (MHIP).

It also includes the Ministry’s response to recommendations regarding the delivery of MHIP projects included in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet’s Implementation Unit’s Mid-term review of the 2019 $1.9 billion Mental Health and Wellbeing Package.

Work is already underway to provide additional support to the delivery of existing infrastructure projects and ensure a more consistent approach across the initial 16 capital projects in the MHIP programme. The briefing outlines that support and details the ways HIU will work in partnership with DHBs to deliver their projects.

New guidance has been developed to support a faster and more consistent approach to the facility design process. It will assist DHBs with clear guidance on models of care and facility requirements.

The briefing was approved by Ministers on 16 September 2021. Some information has been withheld under the Official Information Act.
