The Ministry of Health has secured limited places for NZMAT volunteers to undertake AusMAT (Australian Medical Assistance Team) training through the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre in Darwin, Australia.
Places on the AUSMAT courses will be offered to some selected NZMAT volunteers.
It is envisioned in the future to be able to provide New Zealand-based training for NZMAT volunteers through courses and training exercises. Refreshers will be needed periodically, and will be managed through training exercises.
Costs of training
The Ministry of Health pays for travel, accommodation, meals and course fees for NZMAT volunteers to attend nominated training courses.
If you are offered the opportunity to undertake specific training, it is your responsibility to negotiate with your employer to attend the course – this includes covering your salary/wages and any time-in-lieu if appropriate.
