Sore throat management services include school-based programmes, rapid response clinics and other clinics that are part of the Rheumatic Fever Prevention Programme.

To assist the Ministry in the development of this programme the New Zealand Guidelines Group was asked to undertake a systematic review in two areas relating to the primordial prevention of rheumatic fever. These were the effectiveness of health literacy interventions, and interventions to reducing overcrowding in households at higher risk of rheumatic fever.
