NZ COVID Tracer is a Ministry of Health app designed to make it easy to keep track of where you’ve been and who you’ve been with. Being able to access this information quickly makes it faster to trace contacts and send alerts in the event of a positive case of COVID-19 and stop the virus from spreading.
Last updated: 8 April 2021
NZ COVID Tracer is compatible with around 95 percent of mobile operating systems and devices.
The latest version of NZ COVID Tracer is version 4.1.0.
We update the app regularly and the latest version contains a number of new features, including:
- Personal metrics
- National statistics
- A flashlight for scanning in low light
Android users should also experience faster start-up times.

View information on app registrations, QR codes, scans and manual diary entries.
NZ COVID Tracer has been designed to make use of assistive technology features on smartphones where possible, including VoiceOver on iOS and TalkBack on Android.
To improve accessibility for people who are blind or have low vision, the app includes haptic feedback for supported devices that confirms when you have scanned one of the official QR codes or received an alert.
The Ministry continues to look at ways to enhance the app, informed by feedback and behavioural research.
The NZ COVID Tracer app is easy to use, and there is information and guidance on how to use it published in 23 languages.
NZ COVID Tracer is built with the ability to support other languages, which will be considered for future releases.
