Nau Mai Rā privacy policy

We welcome Quarantine Free Travellers.

The Ministry of Health’s elimination strategy for COVID-19 is a sustained approach to ‘keep it out, find it and stamp it out’. Contact tracing is a key part of this approach. Contact Tracers are authorised under the Health Act 1956 to identify anyone who may have been exposed to COVID-19, to make them aware they may be affected and encourage them to seek testing and treatment if necessary. This will help limit further transmission of COVID-19.

All Quarantine Free Travellers must provide contact information before departing for New Zealand, or may face delays in boarding their flight or arriving in New Zealand until they complete this process. This is a mandatory requirement under the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Air Border) Order (No 2) 2020 (the Order).

What is the purpose of Nau Mai Rā?

Nau Mai Rā is the electronic system approved to collect the contact tracing details from you. It will securely collect the details from you and send them to a secure database managed by the Ministry of Health. Nau Mai Rā is operated by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (Immigration New Zealand) as agency for the Ministry of Health.

It may become necessary to find you after you have arrived in New Zealand for contact tracing purposes (if you may have been exposed to COVID-19). The Contact Tracers will be able to access the information you provided to make contact with you.
