Te Ao Mārama is a group of external advisors that supports the implementation of Whāia Te Ao Mārama: The Māori Disability Action Plan and provides advice to the Ministry on issues that affect Māori with disabilities (tāngata whaikaha Māori). The group includes tāngata whaikaha Māori, whānau of tāngata whaikaha Māori, Māori that work within the disability sector and experts on Māori cultural matters.
Te Ao Mārama is responsible for monitoring the implementation of Whāia Te Ao Mārama and providing advice to the Ministry of Health on the effectiveness of the plan’s implementation in improving the lives of tāngata whaikaha Māori and their whānau.
The group meets at least three times a year.
