Summary

HISO is supporting Te Aho o Te Kahu’s development of data standards for structured pathology reports.

CanShare is the overarching approach by Te Aho o Te Kahu to improve the completeness, accuracy, timeliness and shareability of cancer data and information where the patient/whānau is at the centre.

A key component of CanShare is achieving national consistency in structured pathology reporting. A project has been established to work in partnership to develop and implement clinically relevant pathology data specifications that aid clinical decision-making processes and equity focused improvements efforts.

To date, several structured pathology data standards have been developed by Te Aho o Te Kahu and endorsed by HISO. There are a number of data standards that are in active development with many more to be completed over the coming year. The development of these data standards follows a streamlined standards approval process that has been agreed upon between HISO and Te Aho o Te Kahu.

For further information on CanShare or the structured pathology reporting data standards approved by HISO or those in development, see Structured Pathology Reporting of Cancer.
