Whakaari/White Island: final patients discharged from National Burn Centre

The New Zealand health system has worked hard to support those affected by the tragic event at Whakaari/White Island.

In good news, the last patients involved in the tragedy have now been discharged from the National Burn Centre.

The volcanic eruption on December 9 in which 21 people lost their lives set in motion a massive national and international response in which the National Burn Service, hosted at Middlemore Hospital, played a key role, alongside district health boards, first responders and many more health  staff involved in the wider response.

The Ministry of Health thanks everyone who contributed to the best possible outcomes for people affected and our best wishes go to all as they continue their recoveries.
