The Ministry of Health is thanking midwives for their commitment to providing New Zealanders with high-quality care ahead of International Day of the Midwife on Saturday.
This year’s theme is ‘Midwives leading the way with quality care’.
A recent study commissioned by the Ministry of Health found no difference in risk-adjusted mortality rates among New Zealand midwives, regardless of the number of years they have been practicing.
This is a sign that New Zealand’s midwives are providing safe care throughout their career, with mothers and babies benefitting.
‘As a midwife, I am aware of the pressures which come with the territory,’ says the Ministry of Health’s Principal Advisor of Maternity, Bronwen Pelvin.
‘I am extremely proud of the commitment to safe care which is demonstrated by all midwives in our country. Our midwives deliver a high-quality service.’
